Description

The GE-Emerson IC655PER500 Series Five Operator Interface Unit (OIU) is a portable device that allows floor operators and engineers to monitor and perform operations on the Series Five Programmable Logic Controller system. This compact unit can perform functions such as monitoring vital I/O or register references, diagnosing system faults, and can display pre-programmed messages for visual status updates. The OIU series is connected to the Series Five CPU power supply via the port connector and utilizes 400mA of current, or up to 1amp when used to load PROM memory.

The OIU features an LCD display, LED indicator lights, a memory cartridge slot, a memory burner, and RS-232 communications ports. The LCD display of the OIU shows two lines of data, each 24 characters long, to provide a visual means of monitoring register and I/O values, displaying and selecting system parameters, and displaying diagnostic or error messages. The three LED indicators in the upper left of the unit show the current operating mode of the CPUT: RUN (green), RUN with outputs disabled (amber), or STOP (red). The memory cartridge slot allows a Series Five PLC memory cartridge to be inserted into the device to perform various functions, and the EPROM burner allows programs written on the cartridge to be copied. Lastly, an RS-232 port enables connection to a cassette tape recorder or computer.
