The Allen-Bradley 1771-ALX PLC-5 Local I/O Adapter Module must be placed in the left-most slot in the I/O chassis. Up to 16 local I/O adapters may be included in the bus, and the last adapter on the bus must be terminated with the terminator plug used in the PLC-5 programmable controller. The adapter is designed to allow disconnection of a rack from the bus without shutting the system down. The cable on an individual local I/O adapter can be removed without disrupting the bus communication to the rest of the system. Switches on the module and the I/O chassis backplane must be set to correspond to the particular application in use.
